Corns on Feet

Corns are often a source of pain and discomfort. At Elite Podiatry, we can help treat and resolve this problem.

What are corns?

Corns occur due to the thickening of your skin in a small, concentrated area. They only occur as a result of frictional or shearing forces. This can be due to two toes rubbing against eachother (causing corns in-between the toes or “interdigital corns”) or the skin rubbing against another surface. Corns commonly occur over bony prominances or on the bottom of your foot.

What causes corns on feet?

There are several reasons corns can occur. Some of these include the following:

  • Abnormal walking pattern (orthotics may reduce this)
  • Toe deformities
  • Narrow fitting shoes
  • Walking barefooted
  • Standing up for long hours, especially on hard floors
  • Diabetes
