What is it?
Sever’s Disease refers to inflammation of the heel bones’s (calcaneus) growth plate. It classically is quite painful and usually affects children between the ages of 8 and 14 years old. This is because the heel bone (calcaneus) has three separate growth plates that don’t fuse strongly together until at least the age of 14 years. When a child places too much pressure or repetative stress on these growth plates, they can inflame the area, causing pain.
